What is a good score?
Dilation, Effacement, Fetal Station, Cervical position, Consistency of cervix
Bishop Score >8 is consistent with cervix favorable for spontaneous and induced labor.
Closed cervix, 30% effaced, -3 station, Firm and posterior cervix. Bishop score?
0
1-2 cm dilated cervix, 50% effaced, -2 station, medium and mid position cervix. Bishop score?
5 (1 pt. apiece)
3-4 cm dilated cervix, 70% effaced, -1 station, soft and anterior cervix. Bishop score?
8 (2 pts. apiece)
What is effacement?
how much length is left of the cervix and how thinned out it is
[3-5 cm]
100% = cervix is as thin as adjoining lower uterine segment
What is station?
Relation of fetal head to the ischial spines
0: at the level of ischial spines
(-): above
(+): below
Describe a posterior cervix.
High in the pelvis, located behind fetal head, and difficult to reach
Describe an anterior cervix
Felt easily on exam and lower down in the vagina
