Absolute contraindication to participation in contact/collision sports
- Loss of cervical lordosis from spearing
- Causes central stenosis
Torg Ratio
1.0 = normal
< 0.8 = Stenotic
Klippel-Feil Syndrome

- Causes 2 or more spinal segments to be fused
- Immediate contraindication for sports

Acceleration/Deceleration injury
- Extreme hyperextension force followed by deceleration moving back into flexion
Whiplash Associated Disorders
Gr 1- stiff neck no signs
Gr 2- Decreased ROM, point tenderness
Gr 3- Neuro signs, decreased or absent DTR, dermatome or myotome involvement
Gr 4- fx or dislocation
Torticollis
“wry neck”
Cock robin
- Spasmodic, cogenital, hysterical
Most common root level for Brachial Plexus injuries
C5,C6 root level
Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
Compression of the brachial plexus, subclavian artery, and subclavian vein
TOS Compression sites
- Costoclavicular (rib 1 and clavicle)
- Anterior and middle scalene
- Compression on pec minor
