What are the privileges of a sport pilot cert?
Operate as PIC in eligible aircraft.
Carry a single passenger & share expenses (fuel, oil, airport expenses, and aircraft rental).
Fly daytime using VFR. (3 statute miles vis & visual contact with the ground are required.)
Fly Cross-country anywhere in the U.S.
Fly up to 10,000 feet above mean sea level (MSL) or 2,000 feet above ground level (AGL), whichever is higher.
Fly in Class E and G airspace (and B, C, and D airspace with appropriate training).
What are the limitations of a sport pilot cert?
Fly in Class A airspace.
Fly in Class B, C, or D airspace until they receive training and a logbook endorsement from an instructor.
Fly outside the U.S. without prior permission from the foreign aviation authority.
Tow any object.
Fly while carrying a passenger or property for compensation or hire.
Fly in furtherance of a business.
What are the currency requirements for a sport pilot cert?
Flight review every 24 months.
3 takeoffs and landings in a make/model aircraft within the last 90 days to carry a passenger.
Maintain current medical eligibility.
What are the medical eligibility reqs for a sport pilot?
FAA medical or current driver’s license

How does a pilot determine if an aircraft conforms to its approved type design and is in condition for safe operation?
14 CFR part 21
a - For type design - determine maintenance, preventative maintenance and alterations have been performed in accordance with appropriate regs.
b - For safe operation - conduct thorough preflight inspection
Who is responsible for ensuring that an aircraft is maintained in an airworthy condition?
Owner or operator
Describe some of the responsibilities an aircraft owner has pertaining to aircraft docs, maintenance and inspections of their aircraft?
Owners must:
a) Have current airworthiness cert & aircraft reg in aircraft
b) Maintain aircraft in airworthy condition including compliance with any applicable Airworthiness Directives
c) Ensure maintenance is properly recorded
d) Keep abreast of current regulations concerning the operation of that aircraft
e) Notify FAA immediately of any address change, sale/export of aircraft or loss of citizenship
f) Have a current FCC radio station license if operating outside of the US.
Do registration certificates expire?
Yes - every 3 years after the last day of the month in which it was issued.
Can a pilot legally conduct flight ops with known inoperative equipment onboard?
Yes - under certain conditions.
