What makes an airplane Airworthy?(3)
1) It meets approved type design
2) It’s in a condition for safe operation

Who’s responsible for maintaining airworthiness under 14 CFR 91.403?
The owner/operator of an aircraft is primarily responsible for maintaining that aircraft in an airworthy condition, including compliance with part 39 of this chapter.
Who’s responsible for determining that an airplane is in an airworthy condition? 14 CFR 91.7
The pilot in command of a civil aircraft is responsible for determining whether that aircraft is in condition for safe flight. The pilot in command shall discontinue the flight when unairworthy mechanical, electrical, or structural conditions occur.
What inspections are required?
TAPE100
Transponder (VFR/IFR every 24 calendar months) - 14 CFR 91.413
Annual inspection (No later than every 12 calendar months.)
Pitot Static (24 months)
Emergency Locator Transmitter (VFR/IFR every 12 calendar months or when the ELT has been used for 1 hour or 50% of useful battery life) - 14 CFR 91.207
100 hr inspection - because this a/c is used for training (can overfly by up to 10 hours, but only to reposition the aircraft)
What are Airworthiness Directives and are they applicable to the RV 12?
ADs are legally enforceable regulations issued by the FAA in accordance with 14 CFR part 39 to correct an unsafe condition in a product.

What are Safety Directives ?
Safety Directives are issued by the manufacturers of light sport aircraft. Some are mandatory and other are not.
What are Service Bulletins vs. Alert Service Bulletins?
SB are notices to aircraft operators from a manufacturer notifying them of a product improvement.
Alert service bulletins are issued by the manufacturer when a condition exists that the manufacturer feels is a safety related item as opposed to just a product improvement.
There are also “Mandatory Service Bulletins”.
