Cerebrum Flashcards
Where is the cerebrum embryologically derived from?
Prosencephalon
What are the main sulci?
Central sulcus (separates frontal and parietal lobes)
Lateral sulcus (separates frontal and parietal lobes from the temporal lobes)
Lunate sulcus (located in occipital cortex)
What are the main gyri?
Precentral gyrus (primary motor cortex)
Postcentral gyrus (primary somatosensory cortex)
Superior temporal gyrus (sound reception and processing)
What is the frontal lobe functionally responsible for?
Higher intellect, personality, mood, social conduct and language
What are the parietal lobes functionally responsible for?
Language and calculation (on dominant side) Visuospatial functions (on non-dominant side)
What are the temporal lobes functionally responsible for?
Memory
Language
Hearing (primary auditory cortex)
What is the occipital lobe functionally responsible for?
Vision
What is the blood supply to the cerebrum?
Anterior cerebral artery (branch of ICA)
Middle cerebral artery (branch of ICA)
Posterior cerebral artery (branch of Basilar)
What is the venous drainage of the cerebrum?
Cerebral veins drain directly into dural venous sinuses
