What is thalamic pain syndrome?
Usually stroke causing thalamic lesion
Initial contralateral loss of sensation/tingling, which is replaced by severe and chronic dysaesthesia/allodynia after weeks-months
What is the other name for thalamic pain syndrome?

Headache, Papilloedema, reduced consciousness (CSF blockage)
Symptoms of a venous infarction?
Seizures
Focal deficits e.g. Hemiplegia
What are the second most common type of venous sinus thrombosis?
Deep cerebral venous thrombosis
Where in the brain do deep venous sinus thromboses occur?
Basal ganglia and other subcortical structures
What is the usual route for cavernous sinus thrombosis?
Infection spreading from jaw, through draining veins and paranasal sinuses
Symptoms of cavernous sinus thrombosis?
Painful ophthalmoplegia Proptosis Chemosis (conjunctival swelling) Peri orbital oedema Facial numbness Fever
