Cerebrovascular accident - Stroke Flashcards
What is a transeint ischaemic attack?
- Acute class of focal cerebral or acular function with symptoms lasting less thant 24 hrs - smyptoms resolve within few minutes or few hrs.
What is a haemorrhagic stroke?
Primary haemorrhagic stroke occurs when blood vessels bleed into the deep cerebral tissue of the brain, intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH)
Subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) occurs when a blood vessel on the surface of the brain reupturs & bleeds into the subarachnoid space.
What is a Areterial thrombolisis?
Occurs when a thrombus forms in one of the arteries that supply the brain with blood & oxygen. Caused by atherosclerosis plaques which ruputure within the vessel initiating clot formation.
What is arterial embolism?
Thormbus or other devbris forms/accumulates at the site away from the brain. This part of it is dislodged & travel to the brain.
