Cerebral Vascular Diseases Flashcards
1
Q
Global Cerebral Ischemia
A
Caused by hypotension–> brain doesn’t get enough blood–> mild (transient confusion) or severe (persistant vegetative or brain death)
Histology
- Red neurons, neutrophil infiltration (day 1)
- Necrosis, macrophages, vascular proliferation–> laminar necrosis
- Loss of necrotic tissue (after 2 wks)
Watershed infarcts–areas most susceptible to hypoxia
-places where two arteries join (ACA/MCA)
