Q

where is the cerebellum or “little brain” and what does it do?

A

at the rear of the brainstem. Functions include processing sensory input, coordinating movement output and balance, and enabling nonverbal learning and memory & coordinating voluntary movements. Ex: when a soccer player controls the ball.

Q

what makes up the limbic system and what does it do?

A

sometimes referred to as the midbrain. made up of the amygdala, hypothalamus, hippocampus, and pituitary gland. Is a neural system associated with our emotions and drives/desires.

Q

what does the hypothalamus do?

A

directs several maintenance activities. ex: helps with eating, drinking and body temp. also helps govern the endocrine system via the pituitary gland, which is linked to our sexual emotions and rewards from pleasure.
