Ceratopsians Flashcards
What are Ceratopsians
Ceratopsians are dinosaurs that have horns and a frill on their head. They are all herbivores and normally travel in a herd. Ceratopsians are quadropedal dinosaurs that are similar to modern day rhinos.
Triceratops
Triceratops were ceratopsians that had three horns on its face. It lived during the cretaceous period along side the Tyrannosaurus Rex which it was hunted by. It grew up to 10 feet tall and could run up to 20 mile per hour.
Styracosaurus
Styracosaurus was a ceratopsian that lived during the Cretaceous. It had long horns that attached to its frill. Styracosaurus was 18 feet in length and could run up to 20 miles per hour.
Chasmosaurus
Chasmosaurus was a ceratopsian that has three horns and a large frill. It lived during the Cretaceous period in North America. It could grow up to 16 feet in length and 4,400 pounds in weight.
Torosaurus
Torosaurus was the largest frilled ceratopsian and lived during the late Cretaceous period. Torosaurus was thought to be the adult version of Triceratops but that theory came to an end by Yale paleontologists. It grew up to 30 feet long and weighed up to 13,00 pounds.
Protoceratops
Protoceratops was a small ceratopsian that had a small beak and a horn on the tip of its nose. It was 2 feet tall at the shoulder and 5.9 feet in length. Protoceratops fossils were found in the Gobi desert along with Velociraptor fossils. The Velociraptor was likely attacking the Protoceratops while they buried alive entangled together.
