Ceph Soft Tissue Measurements Flashcards
Nasolabial Angle (NLA)
Lines = Subnasale - columella; subnasale - lip
Measure = outer angle
Indicates = lip AP position; nose angulation (protruded/retruded)
Norm = 100 +/- 10 degrees
Facial Contour Angle
Lines = Glabella-Subnasale (upper facial plane)
Subnasale-ST Pogonion (lower facial plane)
Measure = inferior angle
Indicates = AP position of soft tissue chin and profile; (convex/straight/concave)
Norm = -11 +/- 4 degrees (NEGATIVE #!)
Upper to Lower Face Height
(UFH : LFH)
Lines = Glabella-Subnasale;
Subnasale-ST Pogonion
Measure on facial planes =
UFH = glabella-subnasale
LFH = subnasale-menton
Indicates = soft tissue lower face height (deficient/excess)
Norm = UFH - mm (1:1)
Face Height Pupil
Lines = Glabella-Subnasale;
Subnasale-ST Pogonion
Measure on facial planes =
Right angle to planes
UFH = pupil-subnasale
ULL = subnasale-stomonion
LLL = stomonion-menton
Indicates = soft tissue height (deficient/excess)
Norm = UFH - P (2:1:2)
Lip Protrusion
Lines = Subnasale - ST Pogonion
Measure perpendicular =
- To most prominent point of upper lip
- To most prominent point of lower lip
Indicates =lip protrusion/retrusion
Norm = Upper Lip = 3.5 +/- 1.2 mm
Lower Lip = 2.2 +/- 1 mm
Upper Lip Length
Lines = Subnasale - Stomonion
Measure perpendicular =
-Along line from subnasale to stomonion
Indicates = Upper lip length (relative incisor vertical exposure)
Norm =
Male = 21 - 26 mm
Female = 17 - 23 mm
