Ceph Skeletal Vertical Measurements Flashcards
Anterior Nasal Spine to Menton
Lines = ANS - Menton
Measure (mm) = ANS - Menton
Indicates = vertical height of skeletal lower face
Norm = determined from chart; use correct maxillary or mandibular measurement
Mandibular Plane to Frankfort Horizontal
Lines = FH and MP
Measure = angle at back of face
Indicates = vertical of mandible; ramus height; face height and muscles
Norm = Adult Male = 23 +/- 4 degrees
Adult Female = 24 +/- 4 degrees
Mandibular Plane to Sella Nasion Plane
Lines = SN and Mandibular Plane
Measure = Angle at back of face
Indicates = vertical of mandible; ramus height; face height and muscles
Norm = 32 +/- 5 degrees
High MP Angle Facial Pattern
Norm = 32 +/- 5 degrees
This pic = 49 degrees (+3 SD)
Steep mandibular plane
Obtuse gonial angle
Long lower face height
Anterior Open bite
Child - vertical growth
Weak muscles of mastication
Low MP Angle Facial Pattern
Low Mandibular Plane
More acute gonial angle
Short lower face height
Anterior deep bite
Child = horizontal growth
Strong muscles of mastication
Tooth wear and fracture
Upper 1st Molar to Palatal Plane (U6-PI)
Lines = ANS - PNS; Buccal cusp to palatal pl
Measure (mm) = right angle to palatal plane
Indicates = vertical ht posterior max
Norm = Females = 25 +/- 2mm
Males = 28 +/- 3mm
Basion-Nasion to Pterygoid Pt-Gnathion
Lines = BaN - PtGn
Measure = posterior inferior angle
Indicates = facial vertical; adult = vertical indicator; child = mandible grows normally along this axis
Norm = 90 +/- 4 degrees
