Ceph Bony Landmarks Flashcards
Nasion (N)
Anterior frontonasal suture Seen as notch

Sella turcica (S)
Geometric center of bony crypt of pituitary

Porion (P)
Most superior point of external auditory meatus

Pterygoid Point (Pt)
Foramen Rotundum Upper left pterygomaxillary fissure Template location

Orbitale (O)
Lowest point on inferior bony margin orbit

Condylion (Co)
Most posterior, superior point on mandibular condyle

Basion (Ba)
Most inferior, posterior point on occipital bone Immediately above odontoid process Anterior margin of foramen magnum

Anterior Nasal Spine (ANS)
Anterior spinous projection of maxilla

Subspinale (A)
A Point Most posterior point on anterior concavity of maxilla between ANS and crest of alveolar process

Maxillary Incisor (1) or U1
Find incisal edge and apex Template aligned with long axis-index on edge

Mandibular Incisor (1) or L1
Find incisal edge and apex Template aligned with long axis-index on edge want to know the angulation depth and how far forward they are - has an effect on the smile of the patient

Maxillary Molar (6) or U6
Find occlusal and root Template aligned with long axis Index on occlusal

Mandibular Molar (6) or L6
Same as maxillary

Supramentale (B)
B Point Most posterior point on concavity of incisive fossa of anterior mandibular symphysis

Pogonion (Po)
Most prominent point on anterior of mandibular symphysis

Gnathion (Gn)
Most outward, everted point on anterior aspect of symphysis Midpoint between Pogonion and Menton

Menton (M)
Most inferior point on symphysis

Gonion (Go)
Most outward, everted point on angle of mandible formed by ramus and body

Glabella (G)
Most prominent midsagittal point on smooth prominence of forehead between eyebrows

Pupil
Opening at center of iris Radiolucent triangle Apex used as measurement point Right angle to facial plane

Subnasale
Junction of nose and lip Midpoint of curve Straight edge @ 45degrees

Upper Vermillion Border
Most anterior part on margin of upper membranous lip Junction of skin and mucous membrane

Stomion
Meeting point of lips If lip incompetence = most inferior point on upper lip

Soft Tissue Pogonion
Most anterior point on soft tissue chin Construction (difficult patients) Perpendicular from hard tissue pogonion to subnasale-chin line

Soft Tissue Menton
Inferior border of soft tissue chin Difficult to find consistently Located by bisecting angle between: 1). N-Po plane 2). Mandibular plane
