Q
How does the centre of gravity impact the lifting conditions of the following: Left lower leg amputee > Gravity will shift to the right and not through the abdomen:
A
- The Centre of gravity can affect an amputee’s balance and stability
- The distribution of weight and balance is altered to shift to the right because his missing limb is on the left side of his body instead of it being through the centre of his body (abdomen)
- This can increase the chances of them falling
- Regular exercise, physical therapy, use of appropriate assistive devices and rehab can be done to minimise the risk of falls and improve stability
