Streptococcus pyogenes
Staphylococcus aureus
what are the risk factors of cellulitis
Age
Obesity
Venous insufficiency
Trauma
Eczema
Dermatitis
what are the complications of cellulitis
Necrotising fasciitis
Myositis
Sepsis
Subcutaneous abscess
what laboratory investigations could be done to identify this?
Raised white cell count (WCC)
Raised erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)
Raised C-reactive protein (CRP)
what is the eron classification class I for cellulitis?
Class I
Patient has no signs of systemic toxicity and no uncontrolled comorbidities
treatment: oral antibitotics
what is the eron classification class 2 for cellulitis?
Patients are either systemically ill or systemically well but with a comorbidity such as peripheral vascular disease
treatment: IV antibiotics
what is the eron classification class 3 for cellulitis?
Patients may have significant systemic symptoms, such as acute confusion, tachycardia, tachypnoea, hypotension
treatment: Admit to hospital for IV antibiotics and careful monitoring
what is the eron classification class 4 for cellulitis?
Patients have sepsis syndrome or severe life-threatening infections, such as necrotising fasciitis
Treatment
Admit to hospital for IV antibiotics and treatment of sepsis
self care advice
paracetamol
fluid intake
elevate leg
avoid compression socks
