What is cellulitis?
A
Diffuse skin infection involving the DEEP DERMIS and SUBCUTANEOUS FAT.

What two organisms are most commonly associated with cellulitis?
A
Strep. Pyogenes
Staph Aureus

What are some predisposing risk factors for cellulitis?
A
- Diabetes Mellitus
- Obesity
- Tinea Pedis (athlete foot)
- Lymphoedema

How does early cellulitis present? (3)
A
Red swollen area.
Hot and tender to touch.
The painful swelling rapidly spreads.

How can cellulitis present? (4)
A
- Erythematous with no distinct borders
- Fever
- Lymphadenopathy
- Lymphangitis

How do we treat cellulitis? (3)
A
- I.V. Flucoxacillin
- Rest
- Antistaph and antistrep Abx
