Cellular Respiration Flashcards
What are the parts of cellular respiration??
Role of glucose Oxygen Function of ATP Aerobic/anaerobic respiration Production of carbon dioxide Product of lactic acid Production of ATP
What is the role of glucose??
Sugar, from our food, is broken down into water and carbon dioxide.
What is oxygen??
A chemical found in the air and that is required for breathing.
What is the function of ATP??
Is a high-energy molecule found in every cell. It’s job is to store and supply the cell with energy it needs. It sometimes called the energy currency of the body.
What is aerobic respiration??
Uses oxygen and glucose, produces waste carbon dioxide and water as well as providing energy. The energy that was holding the glucose molecule together is released.
What is anaerobic respiration??
Involves releasing energy for cells from glucose. Does not require oxygen!!!
What is the production of carbon dioxide??
A gas commonly known as CO2 that collects in the tissues and is removed from the body.
What is the production of lactic acid??
Chemical produced in the body by muscle tissue and red blood cells; for example, it can be produced during exercise.
What is the production of ATP??
Chemical reactions and processes that take place in the mitochondria to convert biochemical energy from nutrients into ATP then to release waste product.
