Cellular Respiration Flashcards
What is Cellular Respiration?
It the process of getting energy from organic compounds using oxygen.
What gas is needed for cellular respiration?
Oxygen is needed for cellular respiration
Where in your body is O2 used?
O2 (Oxygen) is used in the Mitochondria for cellular respiration, Oxygen is present for the entire aerobic respiration process (except fermentation, bc thats thats what happens if there is no oxygen) , but it is only directly needed in the Electron Transport Chain (ETC) as the final electron acceptor.
What gas is produced by cellular respiration?
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is produced with cellular respiration
Where in your body is CO2 produced?
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is produced in the Mitochondria, and it forms during:
Pyruvate oxidation (as pyruvate converts to acetyl-CoA)
Krebs cycle (Citric Acid Cycle) (when carbon atoms from glucose are released as CO₂)
Where in your body do you take in O2 and get rid of CO2?
You take in O₂ (oxygen) through the lungs when you inhale,
and you get rid of CO₂ (carbon dioxide) through the lungs when you exhale.
