cellular respiration Flashcards
cellular respiration
provide energy for cells by breaking down glucose
phosphorylation
phosphate is added to ADP to form ATP
aerobic respiration
respiration with the use of oxygen
glycolysis
occurs In cytosol, glucose broken into pyruvate, 2 ATP generated, NAD+ picks up H+ ions
glycolysis inputs
glucose, 2 ADP, 2NAD+
glycolysis outputs
2 ATP, 2NADH, 2 pyruvate
Krebs cycle
occurs in matrix (mitochondria), FAD+ picks up 2 hydrogen atoms per molecule
Krebs cycle inputs
2 pyruvate, 2 ADP, 8 NAD+, 2 FAD+
Krebs cycle outputs
6 CO2, 2 ATP, 8NADH, 2FADH2
Electron transport chain
occurs in cristae (in matrix), energy in loaded acceptor molecules converted into ATP
ETC inputs
6NADH, 2 FADH2, 6O2, 26/28 ADP
ETC outputs
6H2O, 6 NAD+, 2FAD+, 26/28 ATP
anaerobic fermentation
breakdown of glucose in absence of oxygen
lactic acid fermentation
occurs during strenuous activity, glycolysis repeated, pyruvate converted into lactate and unloads coenzymes to repeat
alcoholic fermentation
occurs in cytosol, enzymes convert pyruvate to ethanol and CO2
