Cellular Respiration Flashcards
What is the equation of cellular respiration?
C 6 H 12 O 6 + 6 O 2 –> 6 CO 2 + 6 H 2 O + ATP
Where does cellular respiration take place with a cell?
In the cytoplasm and the mitochondria
How much ATP can be produced from 1 glucose molecule?
38
Is cellular respiration necessary for plants? Explain.
Yes it is in fact necessary. This is because cellular respiration is used for maintenance and growth of most/all plant tissue.
How are photosynthesis & cellular respiration related to the flow of energy and the cycling of matter in ecosystems?
Plants use photosynthesis to create food and make energy which then leads to oxygen being released. Animals then use cellular respiration to take energy from that food which then produces carbon dioxide. Then the cycle continues.
Which cells in the human body do you think need to generate the most ATP?
Muscle Cells
Does cellular respiration require oxygen to ATP? Explain.
When aerobic cellular respiration is taking place, oxygen and glucose react together which then creates ATP. (Don’t know if it is true or not so don’t fully depend on this answer).
What are byproducts?
something produced in a usually industrial or biological process in addition to the principal product
