cellular respiration Flashcards
formula for cellular respiration
C6 H12 O6 + 6O2 —> 6CO2 + 6H20 + ATP
what are the redox reaction and what do they do?
oxidation- when a reactant loses one or more electrons. when it is oxidized it loses energy.
reduction- the gain of one or more electrons. if the reactant is reduced, it gains energy
what happens to the reactants in cellular respiration?
The reactants are processed into usable energy (ATP)
Anaerobic respiration
cells are breaking down the sugar molecules to produce energy without oxygen. It produces 2 ATP, CO2, alcohol and 2 ATP and Lactic Acid. Occurs in the cytoplasm evovled first
fermentation
the partial breakdown of sugars without oxygen
organisms that do cellular respiration
consumers do cellular respiration and producers
- Consumers get their energy
from the producers.Consumers convert stored chemical energy (glucose) into usable chemical energy (ATP).
where does cellular respiration occur
mitochondria
