cellular death Flashcards
define cellular death
the event of a biological cell ceasing to carry out its
functions
what are the 2 types of cellular death
necrosis and apoptosis
define necrosis
the changes post cell death, includes inflammation & lysis
what are the 4 types of necrosis
coagulative, liquefactive, caseous, fat). Different types occur
in different tissues
what are the signs of necrosis
dense clumping, disruption of genetic material, disruption of
plasma & organelle membranes
what is gangrene (necrosis)
tissue necrosis d/t hypoxia and bacterial invasion
define apoptosis
cell self destruction called programmed cell death
what does apoptosis not involve
inflammation
what is autophage (apoptosis)
(eat oneself)
