cells making a body Flashcards
first structural level of body
cells
second structural level of body
cells with simular specialisations group together to form tissue (nerve cells from nervous tissue)
third structural level of body
different types of tissues work together as organs. made up of 2 or more tissues (stomach made with epithelial tissue, muscular tissue)
fourth structural level of body
system - group of organs that work together fro a common purpose
tissue
- 4 types
group of cells similar ins structure and work together to carry out specific function. 4 main types:
1. epithelial tissue
2. connective tissue
3. muscular tissue
4. nervous tissue
epithelial tissue
a covering or lining tissue
- outer layer of skin - heart, kidneys, intestine, liver lungs are lined with ET
- cells are closely joined together, vary in shape from thin and flat to column an cube shaped
- close together =- very smooth surface
connective tissue
provides support for the body and holds all parts together
- cells aren’t as close together, separated from each other by matrix
- includes bone, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, fat storage tissue
msucular tissue
long, thing and can contract to become shorter, there are 3 types of muscular tissue:
1. skeletal
2. smooth
3. cardiac
MT: skeletal muscle
make up muscles that are attached to bones
- voluntary control
- striated
MT: smooth muscle
found in walls of stomach, intestines, walls of BV,
- involuntary movement
- not striated
MT: cardiac muscle
makes up most of heart
- involuntary
nervous tissue
made up of neurons
- when a part of neuronal is stimulated , messages can be passed through these projections from one part of body to other
