Cells and Systems unit Flashcards
What are the characteristics of living things.
They need energy, they react and adapt to their enviroment, they reproduce, they develop over time, and they produce waste
difference between unicellular and multicellular
unicellular has just one cell that carries out all the function. While multicellular is multiple cells carrying out different actions.
what are the 8 basic organnelles.
cell membrane,
cytoplasm,
nucleus,
vacuole,
mitochondria
, ribosomes,
cholorplasts,
cell wall
3 differences between plant and animal cells
animal cells have lysosomes.
planat cells have cholorplasts and cell wall
What are the eight body systems we learned about this year.
Digestive,
Circulatory
Respitory
endocrine
nervous
reproductive
excretory
Muscular
Difference between mechanical and chemical digestion
chemical degrades the food to make it easily absorbed. Mechanical breaks it down to smaller pieces
what is the role of the stomach in the digestive system
acid and muscles break down the food to then it goes to the small intestine
What is the role of the small intestine
Further digests the food + takes nutrients
What is the role of the large intestine
Absorbs water
What are parts of the respiratory system
Nose, diaphragm, lungs, bronchus
How do we take in oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide
Inhalation and exhalation, this is called the gas exchange
What are alveoli and what do they do in the respiratory system
Alveoli are at the end of the bronchioles, they are where the oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged
What is the blood vessel that exchanges carbon dioxide for oxygen at the alveoli
The cappilaries
Where does deoxygenated blood enter the heart
The right atrium
Which part of the heart pumps the de-oxygenated blood to the lungs
The right ventricle
