Light & Optical Systems Flashcards
What is the ray model of light
Light travels straight in all dirrections from its source
Light does not bend around objects
What happens to light when it hits these surfaces
Opaque
Transparent
Translucent
Opaque: Bounces off
Transparent: goes through
Translucent: Some bounce off, some pass through, and some changes dirrection
Describe concave and convex
Concave curves inward and convex curves outward
What do images appear with convex and concave
Convex is bigger images
Concave is smaller
What is the law of reflection
Angle of incidence= angle of reflection
Why do rough surfaces produce a non definite image
light bounces off in lots of different dirrection
explain far-sightedness
image is focused behind the retina
explain near-sightedness
image is focused infront of retina
Which part of the eye is like these camera parts and why.
The film
The diaphragm
the aperture
the lens
The film = Retina They convert light into electrical signals
The diaphragm = iris They both contract and retract to control the amount of passing light
The aperture = pupil They are both holes than enlarge or shrink to change the ammount of light that gets in
The lens = the lens they both bend and focus on light to produce a clear image
Why do eyes have blind spot
There are no photosensitive cells where the optic nerve and retina connect
