Cells And Organelles Flashcards
What are the three points of cell theory?
- Cells are the building blocks of life
- Each cell comes from a pre-existing cell through a process called “cell division”
- all organisms are came from a cell(s) or cell waste.
What is a cell?
A cell is a small volume of cytoplasm encased in the cell membrane. Cells contain several different organelles all with different tasks.
What is DNA?
DNA, or Deoxyribonucleic acid, are found in chromosomes. They define the characteristics of the organism and allow for cell reproduction.
What is an organelle?
Small structure found in cells that carry out different tasks.
What is the ReR?
Short for “Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum”, sends and creates protein to the Golgi Body
SeR
The “Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum” creates and stores Lipid (fat)
Golgi Body
The Golgi Body packages the proteins given and sends to different parts of the cell and organism.
Cytoplasm
The liquid a cell is filled with. Organelles float around in this. Mostly made from water.
Nucleus
Stores DNA and provides the cell with the primary functions.
Ribosomes
Produces Protein
Prokaryotic
A simple, small cell containing a plasmid, a nucleoid region, and ribosomes.
Eukaryotic
A large cell and way more complicated. Contains many organelles and can perform much more functions for the body.
Large Vacuole
Found in plant cells only, stores water and cell waste
Mitochondrion
Creates power for the cell
Chloroplast
Only found in plant cells, this is where photosynthesis happens. Also gives the plant a green colour.
