Cell Cycle! Flashcards

Prokaryotic Cells reproducing
Cell Cycle
The Cycle Eukaryotic Cells go through to reproduce.
Interphase
The First stage of the cell cycle. DNA duplicates itself and the cell checks for any imperfections
Mitosis
The second part of the cell cycle, the cell splitting into two cells
Cytokinesis
The event of the cell splitting into two, and a nucleus forming around them.
Prophase
First phase of mitosis, Paired chromosomes get pinned with the centromere to form the chromatids, Nucleus membrane breaks down leaving chromatids lying freely, a spindle forms across the cell for the chromatids to attach to, (46 on one side, 4 on the other)
Metaphase
The second phase of mitosis, chromatids move to the equator of the spindle,
Anaphase
The third stage of Mitosis, spindle begins pulling the poles, centromere snaps, through a pulsing, pulling motion the chromatids are moved to the poles (Creating a V shape)
Telophase
Spindle fibres break down, nucleus forms around each pole, cell splits, this is cytokinesis,
Chromatid
Two identical chromosomes held together by a centromere
Chromosome
Condensed DNA
Spindle
Protein Fibres that split the cell in Mitosis
Poles
The two ends of the spindle.
Equator
The centre around the spindle, chromatids line up here during Metaphase.
