Cells Flashcards
What is the function of a cell membrane
- Gives the cell protection
- A stable environment inside the cell
- Transport nutrients
- Transport toxic substances out of the cell
What is the function of a cytoplasm
- Has a medium so the organelles can stay suspended.
2. Protects the genetic material of the cell and the organelles from damage when they bump into other cells.
What is the function of a ribosome
- Makes RNA ( ribonucleic acid ) into protein
What is the function of a nucleus
- contains the DNA
2. The control centre of the cell.
What is the function of a cell wall
Gives the cell structure and protection.
What is the function of a vacuole
- is used for storage
- Holds food for later
- holds waste that needs to be removed.
What is the function of a Golgi apparatus
- Simplifies protein’s and liquids.
2. Makes mucus
What is the function of a mitochondria
- The powerhouse of the cell, it gives off and stores energy. The type of energy is called ATP which is part of the citric acid cycle.
What is the function of a chloroplast
- Making the plants food source also known as photosynthesis.
What is the function of a lysosomes
- Breaks down cellular waste. They are acidic so it’s easy for them to break the waste down with their enzymes.
What is the building block of all life

What is the difference between a plant cell and an animal cell
A plant cell has a few things that the animal cell doesn’t. It has a chloroplast and a cell wall. And animals have a lysosome which a plant cell doesn’t have.
How do you prepare a wet mount slide
- on the centre of the slide place one drop of fluid.
- place the sample on top of the fluid
- Place another slide on top but on an angle and lower it slowly so you don’t get any air bubbles
- remove any of the excess fluid.
Why do not all cells have the same function
Different cells have different functions because they all need to help function a different part in the human body.
What’s the difference between multi and uni cellular
Unicellular: like the name it means they only have one cell that has all the functions the organelle needs.
Multicellular: has more than on cell ( multiple ) that are used for a specialised function.
The difference between cells, tissue, organs, organ system and organelles.
organelles make up cells, Cells make up tissue, tissue makes up organs, organs, make up and organ systems
What is something that plant cells have that animal cells don’t.
