Cells Flashcards
What’s a eukaryotic cell?
A cell with a nucleus
What’s a prokaryotic cell?
A cell with no nucleus
All living things are made of what?
At least one cell
What is an autotroph?
Organism that can produce its own food using photosynthesis
What is a heterotroph?
An organism that cant produce its own food
What’s an endoplasmic reticulum
Transports proteins around the cell
What’s a mitochondria
The “powerhouse” of the cell that breaks down nutrients to make energy for the cell
What are ribosomes
Tiny “factories” that produce protein for the cell
What’s a cell wall
Found only in plant cells , protects and supports
Cell membrane
In both plant and animal cells-controls what enters and leaves the cells like a screen
What’s a nucleus
Controls the cell, the “brain”, contains DNA which tells each cell what to do and where to go
What are lysosomes
Breaks down waste to be reused again
What’s a vacuole
Stores nutrients from water and energy
What’s a nucleolus
Inside nucleus, makes ribosomes
Whats a cyptoplasm
Gel like substance that give cells shape and helps organelles move around
What are chloroplasts
Found only in plant cells-where photosynthesis occurs. The chlorophyll on the inside converts sunlight to energy
What are golgi bodies
Packages proteins and ships them around the cell
PMAT
Mitosis
What are the human body systems?
Circulatory, digestive, endocrine, excretory, immune, integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous
What is ecology?
The study of the interactions between organisms and their environment
What are ecosystems
many different species that interact together to keep their environment in balance
What do ecosystems consist of
Biotic and abiotic factors
What types of ecosystems are there
Aquatic and terrestrial
What are producers
Organisms that make their own food through photosynthesis or chemosynthesis (autotrophs)
