Cells Flashcards
What are the contents of Animal Cells?
Animal cells contain a nucleus, cell membrane, cytoplams, mitochondria and ribosomes.
What are the contents of Plant Cells?
Plant cells contain a nucleus, vacuole, cytoplasm, cell membrane, cell wall, chloroplasts, ribosomes and mitochondria
What features do Animal and Plant Cells have in common?
Both animal and plant cells contain a nucleus, cell membrane, cytoplasm, mitochondria, and ribosomes.
What are the main two types of cells?
Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic.
What is the function of a nucleus?
A nucleus controls the cell, while also containing genetic material.
What does the cell membrane do?
The cell membrane controls what goes in and out of a cell.
What happens in the cytoplasm?
Chemical reactions.
What are the purpose of mitochondria?
Mitochondria are used for respiration.
What do ribosomes do?
Ribosomes create protein.
What substance is inside the vacuole?
Vacuoles contain a cell sap, containing salts and sugar.
What is the purpose of the cell wall?
The cell wall gives a plant shape and structure.
What are bacterial cells called?
Prokaryotic.
What are inside bacteria cells?
Bacteria cells contain, a cell membrane, cell wall, cytoplasm, and plasmids.
Since a bacterial cell has no ‘true’ nucleus., where does it keep it’s genetic material?
Inside the cytoplasm, in the form of plasmids, which are used in binary fission.
What does the term turgid mean in reference to plant cells?
It means that the cell is has a high water content.
