Cells Flashcards
What part is labelled A and what is their function?

Mitochondria. They generate the energy that our cells need.
What part is labelled B and what is their function?

Ribosomes. They are used to manufacture proteins.
What part is labelled D and what is their function?

Chloroplasts absorb sunlight and use it in conjunction with water and carbon dioxide gas to produce food for the plant. Chloroplasts capture light energy from the sun to produce the free energy stored in ATP and NADPH through a process called photosynthesis.
What are autosomes?
An autosome is a chromosome that is not an allosome (i.e., not a sex chromosome).
What is homologus?
having the same alleles or genes in the same order of arrangement:
homologous chromosomes.
What are the main points of genetic crossover?
In Meiosis 1 homologous chromosomes come into close contact with each other.
The chromatids of the different members of a homologous pair break at identical points and rejoin with the segment from their homologous partner.
They exchange the alleles (gene variants) they contain.
Produces new combinations of alleles (gene variants) introducing genetic variety
