Cell membrane
Thin flexible barrier around the cell; regulates what enters and leaves the cell
Ex. Guard at a gate or door
Organelle
Specialized structure that performs important cellular function within a eukaryotic cell
Cell Wall
Strong supporting layer around the cell membrane in plants, algae, and some bacteria
Ex. Buildings outer walls
Chloroplast
Organelle found in cells of plants and other organisms that captures energy from sunlight and converts it to chemical energy
Chlorophyll
Principal pigment of plants and other photosynthetic organisms, capture light energy
Cytoplasm
Material inside the cell membrane not including the nucleus
Ex. Jello with fruit in it
Mitochondria
Cell organelle that converts the chemical energy stored in food into compounds that are much more convenient for the cell to use
Ex. Hotdog with ketchup on it
Nucleus
Structure that contains the cells genetic material(DNA) and controls the cells activity

Small particle in the cell on which proteins are assembled made of RNA and protein
Vacuole
Cell organelle that stores materials such as water, salt, proteins, and carbohydrates
Eukaryotic cell
Cell with no nucleus
Prokaryotic Cell
Unicellular organism without a nucleus

The process in which cells develop in different ways to perform different tasks
Antigen
Protein marker on the cell
Ex. The ID card to get into the cell
