Hematuria
A
- Appearance may be very slight, depending on the handling of sample
- May appear as small, colorless, refractile discs, uniform in size
- Indicated bleeding somewhere in urogenital tract, female in heat, or trauma during urination

Pyuria
A
- Appear round and granular, larger than an RBC
- If noted, look closely for bacteria
- If greater than 0-3/HPF, likely to see UTI

A
- Normal finding in urine with free catch, from distal urethra and genitals
- Not normally found if urine is from a cystocentesis

- Relatively normal, especially with catheter sample
- Line proximal urethra, bladder, ureters, and renal pelvis
- If large amount found, may indicate cystitis or pyelonephritis

- Small round with large nucleus
- May indicate kidney tubule degeneration
- Rare
