Cells Flashcards
Identify and define the 4 main units of the human body
Cells: is the basic, microscopic unit of life that makes up all the tissues and organs in the human body
Tissues: group of cells which perform the same kind of function
Organs: groups of tissues that work together to perform special functions eg. kidney, heart, skin, liver…
Organ Systems: groups of organs that work together to perform certain functions eg. urinary system
Identify and define the
- nucleus
- cytoplasm
- cell membrane
Nucleus: (“control center”)
Cytoplasm: fluid inside cell
Cell Membrane: substances can pass in and out of
What is the defining characteristics of the cell that separates human cells from plant cells?
It is the presence of a rigid Cell Wall & Chloroplasts in plant cells, which are absent in human cells
Define and name the different Body Cavities found in a human?
Body Cavities: organs that are located within body cavities
Ventral: anterior (front) aspect of the body including the chest and down to the abdomen
Dorsal: posterior (back) of the body including the brain and the spine
What is a Homeostasis?
A state of balance among all the body systems needed for the body to survive and function properly
