Cells Flashcards
What are cells?
Structural units of all living things
What is cell theory?
Four concepts on cells
What is the first concept of cell theory?
A cell is the basic and structural unit of all living things.
What is the second concept of cell theory?
Activity of an organism depends on the collective activity of its cells
What is the third concept of cell theory?
Activities of cells depend on their structure (anatomy) which determines functions
What is the fourth concept of cell theory?
Continuity of life has a cellular basis
What four elements are cells made up of?
Carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen
Living cells are 60% of what?
Water
Are all cell types alike?
No
All cells have the same three main regions/parts
The plasma membrane, a nucleus, and the cytoplasm
What is the nucleus surrounded by?
The semifluid cytoplasm
What is the semifluid cytoplasm enclosed by?
The plasma membrane (the outer layer of the cell)
Where is the nucleus located?
The middle of the cell; the center
