What is a cell?
A cell is the smallest part of a living organism that can function and reproduce on its own.
What are the parts of a cell?
Mitochondria, cell wall, cell membrane, vacuole, cytoplasm, chloroplast, nucleus and endoplasmic reticulum.
What does a cell wall do?
A cell wall protects and supports the cell.
What does a cell membrane do?
Allows substances to move in an out of the cell.
What does a nucleus do?
Controls all activities of the cell. Is considered the brain of the cell. Contains genetic material called DNA.
What does the vacuole do?
What does the chloroplast do?
Site of photosynthesis, converts light energy into chemical energy. Contains chlorophyll.
What does the Ribosomes do?
Make proteins.
What does the cytoplasm do?
Holds organelles in place and where many chemical reactions occur.
What does the Endoplasmic Reticulum do?
Rough ER makes proteins, smooth ER makes lipids and detoxifies.
What does the Mitochondria do?
Generates energy (ATP) through cellular respiration.
