Cells Flashcards
Learn about types of cells
Name the parts of an animal cell
Cell membrane (forms a boundary to the cell and controls what enters and leaves), cytoplasm (where chemical reactions take place), nucleus (genetic information is stored in chromosomes inside it and is surrounded by a nuclear membrane) and mitochondria (the powerhouse of the cell and is scattered throughout the cytoplasm)
Name the parts of a plant cell
Cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus. They also have cellulose cell wall (provides support to cell membrane), vacuole (contains cell sap), chloroplasts (contain chlorophyll which traps light and helps plant make food during photosynthesis)
Name the parts of a bacteria cell
Non-cellulose cell wall, loop of DNA and plasmids
The mitochondria within a cell are the site of what process?
Respiration
What are the function of red blood cells and what are their adaptions?
They carry oxygen. They have a large surface area and no nucleus
What are the function of nerve cells (neurones) and what are their adaptions?
They transmit and store information. They have many connecting side branches.
What are the function of white blood cells and what are their adaptions?
They engulf and destroy bacteria. They have cytoplasm that can flow so they can change shape.
What are the function of cilliated windpipe cells and what are their adaptions?
They keep the trachea clear of dust. They have tiny hairs that move from side to side.
What are the function of sperm cells and what are their adaptions?
They fertilise egg cells. They have powerful tails.
