Cell Structures Flashcards
What is a eukaryotic cell
A cell with a nucleus and membrane bound organelles - 10-100 micrometres
What is a prokaryotic cell
A cell without a nucleus and non membrane bound organelles
What is a sub cellular structure
Smaller than the cell, bellow cellular level or scope
Animal Cell
Cell membrane - Monitors what goes in and out of cell
Cytoplasm - Maintains cell shape
Mitochondria - Respiration
Ribosome - Synthesises protein
Nucleus - DNA
Plant Cell
All the same structures as an animal cell
Chloroplast - Photosynthesis
Chlorophyll - Absorbs light and gives green colour
Cell Wall - Provides strength and protection
Vacuole - Cell sap
What does a eukaryotic cell have that a prokaryotic cell doesn’t
Prokaryotic cells do not have mitochondria as they receive ATP from the surface of their cell membrane
