Cell Structures Flashcards
1
Q
What is Cell Fractionation?
A
A process that repeatedly uses a centrifuge to isolate the smallest organelles of a cell
2
Q
What is a centrifuge?
A
A machine that applies a centrifugal force (spinny force) on the contents of a tube to separate its larger and smaller parts
3
Q
What is a supernatant?
A
The results (the smaller parts) of a centrifuge process
4
Q
Why do cells have a minimum size limit?
A
They need sufficient space for DNA and macromolecules
5
Q
Why do cells have a maximum size limit?
A
Cells that are too big can not get enough material (nutrients and gas) needed to survive.
