Q

Give the 3 cell theories

A
  1. Cell is the basic, functional, and structural unit of all life.
  2. All living things are composed of cells, cell parts, and cell products
  3. All cells come from pre-existing cells

Q

What’s the difference between SEM, TEM & STEM

A

SEM - ion coated; shows a 3-d surface
TEM - stained with metal ions
STEM - creates 3d surface image of a living thing

Q

What’s the difference between pro & eu?

A

PRO:
doesnt have a membrane-bound nucleus & membrane-bound organelles
most are SINGLE-CELLED

EU:
nucleus is enclosed with a nuclear membrane
have membrane-bound organelles
either single/multicellular celled

16
Q

Storage vessels found within the cell and plants usually have large ones of these. While in animals there are small or sometimes even absent

A

VACUOLES

17
Q

It stores food, water, waste products

A

VACUOLES

18
Q

What is a CONTRACTILE VACUOLE?

A

specialized vacuole to remove excess water from unicellular aquatic organisms

19
Q

Organelles that are only found in plants and are filled with chlorophyll

A

CHLOROPLASTS

20
Q

Function of chloroplasts

A

transform light energy to store energy

21
Q

What are GRANA & STROMA?

A

G - stacked membranous sacs

S - fluid that surround grana

22
Q

Another thing that is found only on plants

A

CELL WALL

23
Q

Why can’t cells grow to a large size?

A

it is because of the ability of the cell membrane to absorb and release substances that prevents them from growing large.

SURFACE-AREA-TO-VOLUME RATIO -there isn’t enough surface area to absorb nutrients quickly enough to keep the cell alive as it grows larger.
