Cell structure and function Flashcards
What organelle is important for the production of adenosine triphosphate?
Mitochondria
What organelle the actions of the cell and stores its DNA
The nucleus.
What organelle exports proteins out to the body?
Golgi apparatus.
Which organelles produce proteins?
Ribosomes.
What 2 types of cells in all living things are there?
Animal cells.
Plant cells.
What are the 4 components that make up a cell?
Plasma membrane.
Nucleus.
Cytoplasm.
Organelles.
What can cell sizes range from?
7.5 - 150 microns.
What am I?
Made up of a phospholipid bilayer and cholesterol.
Separates the inner content of a cell from its exterior environment.
Provides a protective barrier around cells and regulates which materials can pass in and out.
Plasma membrane
What fluids are on the outside and the inside of the plasma membrane?
Intracellular fluid.
Extracellular fluid.
What is interstitial fluid?
It is the extracellular fluid not found within blood vessels.
What are the two types of endoplasmic reticulum?
Smooth and rough ER.
What is the function of rough ER?
It contains ribosomes that make protein.
What is the function of smooth ER?
Makes phospholipids, steroid hormones that regulate the concentration of calcium, metabolize some carbohydrates and break down some toxins.
What am I?
Contains enzymes that break down and digest needed or damaged cell components?
Lysosomes.
What am I?
Contains enzymes that function in lipid metabolism and chemical detoxification.
Peroxisomes.
