Cell Structure Flashcards
What are the 4 types of cells?
Plant
Animal
Bacterial
Fungal
What are the 5 key parts to an Animal Cell?
Nucleus Mitochondria Ribosome Cytoplasm Cell Membrane
What are the 8 key parts of a Plant Cell
Nucleus Mitochondria Ribosome Cytoplasm Cell Membrane Cell Wall Chloroplasts Vacuole
What are the 10 key parts of a Bacterial Cell?
Ribosome Cytoplasm Plasma Membrane Cell Wall Capsule or Slime Layer Plasmid (DNA) Flagellum Food Granule Cilia Chromosome (Nucleoid Region)
What are the 7 key parts of a Yeast Cell?
Nucleus Mitochondria Ribosome Cytoplasm Cell Membranes Cell Wall Food Storage Granules Vacuole
What is the Nucleus
The Nucleus is bound by a double membrane with large pores. Is the control of the cell and it separates the genetic material from the rest of the cell.
What is the Cell Membrane
The cell membrane separates the cell from its environment. It is selectively permeable to substances to pass into and out of the cell. It contains a phospholid bi-layer
What is the Cell Wall
The cell wall is the outer layer of all plant and yeast cells, it helps support the cell. In plant cells it prevents it from bursting when it takes in water
What is a Vacuole
Plants have large central vacuole that store water and nutrients needed by the cell. It helps to support the shape of the cell.
What is the Mitochondria
This is a membrane bound organelles that is the site of aerobic respiration
What is the Chloroplast?
The chloroplast is the site of photosynthesis it is bound by a double membrane structure and they contain chlorophyll
What is a Ribosome
The ribosome is the site of protein synthesis, it is found attached to a membrane or free in the cytoplasm
What is a Plasmid (DNA)
Plasmids usually contain between 5 to 100 genes. They are circular bits of DNA
