Cell Structure Flashcards
Describe the function and structure of the cell membrane and if it is in a plant or animal cell
Found in both plant and animal cells. It is the outer layer for plant cells, and sits inside the cell wall for plant cells. It’s function is that it supports, protects, and gives the cell shape, and also controls movement of materials in and out of cell
Function and structure of cell wall, and if it’s found in the plant or animal cells
Found only in a plant cell, and is the strong outer layer of the cell. It’s function is to support and protect the cell
Function and structure of cytoplasm, and in what cell is it found
Found in both plant and animal cells, and it is jelly like substance, found inside the membrane that supports and protects cell organelles
Function and function of mitochondria, and in what cell is it found
Found in both animal and plant cell, they are bean shelled and break down sugar molecules into energy
Function of lysosomes and what cell are they found in
Found in animal cells, and their function is to break down large food molecules, and digest old cell parts
Function of Golgi bodies, and in what cell are they found in
Found in both plant and animal cells. They are shaped as flattened sacs or tubes, and their function is to make, process, and package proteins
Chloroplasts
Found in only plant cells. They are green oval structures containing chlorophyll, and gives the leaf it’s green pigment, and is reliable on the process of photosynthesis
What is the function of endoplasmic reticulum, and in what cell is it found
Found in both plant and animal cells. They are a network of folded tubes and it’s function is to carry materials through the cell
Function of ribosomes, and in what cell are they found
Ribosomes are found in both plant and animal. They are freely floating small bodies, and they produce proteins
Function of nucleus, and in what cell it it found
Found in both plant and animal cells. They are a rounded shape surrounded by the rest of the organelles, and controls all cell activities
Function of chromatin and what cell is it found
It’s function is to pack DNA, so it can fit into the nucleus. It is found in both plant and animal cells
Diffusion
Diffusion is the passive movement of molecules or particles along a concentration gradient, or from regions/areas of higher to lower concentration.
Osmosis
Osmosis is the net movement of water molecules that pass through a semi permeable membrane, going from areas of low solute concentration, to high solute concentration.
Semi permeable membrane
Allowing certain substances to pass through it but not others
