Cell Structure Flashcards
Description and function of cytoplasm?
Living material that makes up a cell made from many different structures
Chloroplast function
Makes glucose through photosynthesis by absorbing light energy- energy/food for the plant
Where do you find chloroplasts
I’m the green parts of plants
Nucleus description and function
Controls the activities of the cell
Contains chromosomes which carry genetic material
Mitochondria function?
How do they do it?
Release energy that the cell can use
To do this they carry out some of the reactions of respiration
Function of cell membrane
Surround all cells
Form a boundary between the cytoplasm of the cell and the outside
Cell wall function
Help cells to keep their shape
Vacuole function?
Stores dissolved sugars, mineral ions and other solutes in the centre of the cell
What are the differences between plant and animal cells?
Plant cells
Cell wall
Chloroplasts
Large central vacuole
Animal cells
Only membrane
No chloroplasts
Many small vacuoles
How do you make a temporary slide to look at cells down the microscope?
Have a slide, cover slip, pipette, any chemicals or stains you plan to use
Add the liquid on top of the slide with pipette then drop the cover slip on at an angle
Allow the liquid to spread out
