Cell Structure Flashcards
What does the nucleus do?
Contains genetic material that controls the activities of the cell.
What happens in the cytoplasm?
Chemical reactions take place here.
What does the cell membrane do?
Holds the cell together and controls what goes on and out of the cell.
What does the mitochondria do?
Respiration.
What does the cell wall do?
Made of cellulose, supports and strengthens cell.
What does the permanent vacuole do?
Full of cap, makes cell rigid.
What happens in the chloroplasts?
Photosynthesis.
What is the function of Palisade cells?
Photosynthesis
What is the function of root hair cells?
Absorb water and minerals
What is the function of guard cells?
Regulate the rate of transpiration
What is the function of xylem cells?
Transport water up the stem
What is the function of epidermal cells?
Protect the leaf surface
What is the function of fat cells?
Store energy
What is the function of neurone cells?
Nervous communication
What is the function of gland cells?
Release enzymes and hormones
