Cell structure 2 Flashcards
What is the calculations for cell size comparison?
Length divided by diameter
What is the function of cytoplasm?
A jelly-like material. It is where many of the chemical reactions happen.
What is the nucleus?
Contains genetic material, including DNA, which controls the cell’s activities.
What is the cell membrane?
controls the movement of substances in and out of the cell
What is the mitochondria?
contain the enzymes for respiration, and where most energy is released in respiration
What is the chloroplast?
contains the green pigment, chlorophyll, which absorbs light energy for photosynthesis. Contains the enzymes needed for photosynthesis
What is the cell wall?
Made from cellulose fibres and strengthens the cell and supports the plant
What is the vacuole?
Filled with cell sap to help keep the cell turgid.
What is the process of differentiation?
Stem cells divide via mitosis and when needed differentiate for their role
When does differentiation occur?
When cells acquire new sub cellar structures
