Cell Structure Flashcards
What does smooth ER do? What’s the different between rER and sER?
Synthesize lipids. sER doesn’t have ribosomes attached.
What does rough ER do? What organelles are attached to it?
Manufactures proteins with help of ribosomes to export out of the cell. Sits around nucleus and has ribosomes attached to make proteins.
What does Golgi apparatus do?
Protein modification and export. Also manufactures lysosomes.
What is the function of lysosomes? Where are they manufactured?
Protein, lipid, nucleic acid, and carbohydrate destruction. Also destroy viruses which infect the cell.
Manufactured in the Golgi apparatus.
What are the 4 types of vesicles.
- Transport vesicles- move things throughout cell
- Lysosomes- break down things
- Peroxisomes- use oxygen to break down toxic things in cell
- Secretory vesicles- holds things to be secreted like waste and hormones.
What organelle moves to opposite sides of the cell during prophase?
Centrioles.
What are ribosomes?
Help manufacture proteins on the rough ER.
