Cell Structure Flashcards
Nucleus
Holds genetic information of the cell
Nucleolus
Makes RNA and ribosomes
Nuclear pores
Allow passages of large molecules and eg RNA
Nuclear envelope
Double membrane that surrounds nucleus and protects genetic material from mixing with cytoplasm
Mitachondrion
Site of aerobic respiration where atp is produced, energy released
Rough endoplasmic reticulum
Modifies and transports proteins made on ribosomes
Golgi apparatus
Receives proteins from ER
Modifies proteins
Packages them into vesicles
Vesicles moved to plasma membrane
Fuses with excoytosis
Cell wall
Supports cell and prevents from changing shape (permeable)
Lysosomes
Digest invading cells or break down worm out components of cell
Keeps digestive enzymes away from cytoplasm
Ribosome
Site of protein synthesis
Vacuole
Maintain pressure inside cell and keeps it rigid
Chloroplast
Site of photosynthesis
