Cell Specialisation and Organisation Flashcards
What are the advantages of cellular differentiation?
Cellular differentiation is advantageous as it allows for one organism to have a variety of cells that can perform different functions.
How are cells arranged into tissues?
A tissue is a collection of similar cells that perform a specific function. Cells aggregate together (e.g. epithelial, xylem)
How are tissues arranged into organs?
An organ is a combination of tissues that are coordinated to perform a variety of cunctions, although they usually have one predominate function. Tissues aggregate together (e.g. muscle, epithelium, connective –> somach)
How are organs arranged into organ systems?
Organs work together as a single unit known as an organ system. Organs work together to perform a particular function (E.g. Digestive, respiratory, circulatory)
