Cell Signalling Flashcards
What are the reasons for cell communication?
Info Processing: Sensory stimulation e.g. Sight
Self preservation: Danger identification e.g. reflexes
Voluntary movement
Homeostasis
What happens under hypoglycemic conditions?
Glycogenolysis and Gluconeogenesis
Alpha cells of IoL secrete glucagon
Describe Adenyl Cyclase activation
Adenyl Cyclase converts ATP to cAMP; activated by Gs protein and activates protein kinase A in B1-adrenergic receptors to increase heart rate
Describe Adenyl Cyclase inhibition:
if ACh binds to M2-muscarinic receptors, adenyl cyclase is inhibited lowering heart rate
What are the two types of Intracellular receptor?
Cytoplasmic (associated w/ chaperone molecules)
Nuclear (no chaperone molecules)
